Fresh Funk by DJ Stirner

Fresh Funk By DJ Stirner

Hi amigos!
Here comes Fresh Funk for this new sunny summer.
In this tracklist you’ll find many Funk & Disco classics circa 1979 to 1981, when the Funk was definitely influenced by Pop and Disco.
Those tracks made me felt in love with Funk, and served as a sample meat for many house tunes. For a long time I wanted to mix those tracks, but this mix has been pretty difficult and I needed more time and takes. During the last 2 weeks I have been working on it.
Most of the tracks come from my vinyl collection, so once I finished the mix, I have mastered the sound again and I converted to MP3.
The picture is from Studio 54, when Kenny Carpenter was on the Decks.
I mixed as best as I can, I promise that. :D
I hope you all enjoy it!!
Gracias.

DJ Stirner for those who likes the groove

Hola Amigos!!

This is my new mix for those who likes the groove, 70s groove actually. The people who knows me well, they know how much I love to mix 70s classics Disco-Funk, it’s my favourite music since I have memory.

Many of those songs come from Vinyl albums, but some other from CD, so I have mastered the sound in the final mix to make it uniform.
I’ve tried my best to mix as good as possible these songs, human drums are not suitable to mix under perfection or make the mix run a long time, so I just made easy mixes with the beats, matching melodies or using accapellas when it was necessary, just following my ears and my feeling as best as possible.

The tracklist have some classic Funk masters such as Prince, Oliver Cheatham, Touche, Crown Heights affair, Heatwave, Roy Ayers, The O’Jays and even The Gibson Brothers :D, and many of the songs are from DJ Friendly remixes from 70s or 80s.

I dedicate this mix to my DJ friends from the house-mixes website Steve Davis, Wilson Frisk, DJ Javo, and Mr. C. and many others who send me their kind support, and, of course, for those who likes the groove….

Tracklist:

Gaz – Sing Sing (12” mix)
Touche – Just like a Doorknob (Joey Negro edit)
Prince – I wanna be your lover (Wicked white label mix)
Crown Heights Affair – Use your body and soul
Oliver Cheatham – Get Down Saturday Night
Sharon Redd – Beat the street
Dreamboy – Walk the streets
Heatwave – The Groove line (alternate long mix)
Gibson Brothers – What a life
The Real Think – You can’t force the funk
Rafael Cameron – Boogie’s gonna get ya (12” mix)
Roy Ayers – I am your mind
The O’jays – So nice I tried it twice

Cheers.
Stirner.

A night at the Depoit 1984 Mix (Prince's friends, followers & competitors)

The depoit was a legendary club in 1980s based in Minneapolis. The Minneapolis sound was created by Prince, his followers and his competitors and introduced to the audience in this club.
For the people who have seen Prince's movie "Purple Rain" is easy to picture how special was this club.
The Minneapolis sound is the perfect example of "New Wave meets Funk". Sometimes sounds electro, sometimes Disco, sometimes sexy, sometimes POP, sometimes Rock and even phsychedelik.

From Minneapolis (Appart of Prince) I've included The Time, Vanity, Dez Dickerson, Andre Cymone and my alltime favorite Mazarati

I've added also artists from outside Minneapolis (but with a simmilar groove) such as Rick James, Imagination and The Stone City band.

I hope you'll enjoy.

Tracklist:
Prince - Intro
Andre Cymone - Neon Pussycat
Imagination - State of love
Good Question - Got a new love
Rick James - R U experienced?
The Time - Wild and loose
Prince - Head
Stone City Band - Love Hassles
Mazarati - She's just that kind of lady
Apollonia 6 - Sex Shooter
Sheila E. - The glamorous life
Jesse Johnson - Be your man
Ready for the world - Digital Display
Jill Jones - All day all night
Vanity - Make up
Dez Dickerson - Modernaire
The Family - Nothing compares 2 you

1997-98-99 The PIU club classics

Hello Everybody!
Here I am with a new house mix, perfect for a christmas or new year's eve party.

This mix is inspired by the club which makes me keep in touch with the house music.
The PIU club (Princedom in underground)is a club based in my hometown (Sabadell) an industrial city at 20 km. from Barcelona downtown.
Without PIU it's just a boring place to sleep, eat and work. But during 20 years (1985-2005) PIU changed the nights in Sabadell, with colour, art and passion.

PIU was the perfect place to spent the sundays, yes sunday nights, a new party concept for me on that moment. After the massive Saturday, it was the temple of club workers, who were free in Sunday night. The presence of those vicious expert clientele made the club became a unique place in Barcelona. Every sunday from the evening until midnight, PIU was the meeting point of all the fashion freaks around Barcelona.

Artisticly PIU was wonderful, PIU audience was very strong on that point, around late 90s PIU invited DJs such as Roger Sanchez, Louie Vega or Bob Sinclar. It was a cult temple for Speed Garage and French Touch later. The princedom (PIU) was in a direct connection with The ministry of Sound, and Ibiza movements...

PIU made me fell in love with House, Garage & Groove music. The audience was so different...Teens, Cyberpunks, Go-Go dancers, expert nightclubbers, Club workers, gays, artists, musicians, freaks, rolling-stones, old rockers...
After the year 2000 the club became too popular, the audience was younger and the music was more commercial, until the owner sold it.
Actually is sad, but PIU club was ruined and replaced by a new building. Everytime I pass around there with the car I just can remember the wonderful nights I lived there...

This mix is dedicated to all the people who make it to be a real princedom of the underground culture.

Playlist;
Fred Everything - On My Own
Michi Lange - Brothers & Sisters
Gambadubs - Disco Theme
Byron Stringily - Get up
Cheek Venus - Sunshine People

Acid Jazz Breakbeats

Acid Jazz, an independent record label based in London, was a big influence in the late 80s and during the 90s.

The name of the label became a music genre, a symbol of the 70s Funk nostalgia who joined many different musicians, producers, MCs and Djs... such as Jamiroquai, DJ Greyboy, 4 Hero, Galliano, James Taylor quartet, The Brand new heavies, The Future organisation, Incognito, Freak Power with the DJ and Producer Norman Cook...(better known as Fatboy Slim).

During some time, Acid Jazz was considered as a non orinigal style, just a 70s revival, even confused with the Acid House movement.

Unlike this critical moment, Actually Acid Jazz made the first steps on 90s electronic music resurrection, creating the first intelligent way to use Old Skool samples, and creating the most avant-garde sound in the 90s. Nowadays still sounds contemporary, the label is still working and most of the artists are still rockin'.

Without classic hits, for this mix I've choosed electronic & groovy Acid Jazz underground artists, trying my best to mix it in a Funky Style. I hope u'll enjoy

Variations in House Music

Hello Everybody!

This is a double mix I made one year ago as an exploration of alternative & Commercial House Music ways.

The first time I keep on touch with House Music, it was in the Sunday Evenenings of PIÚ CLUB, in my town, when I was still in the high school. On that moment I was only interested in Rock, Pop or Soul music. In PIÚ CLUB (some day I must dedicate a mix to PIÚ) I had the chance to keep on touch with the UK Speed Garage and French Touch waves occasionally visited by great DJs in the mix such as The Masters at work, Bob Sinclar or Roger Sanchez there.

During the next years I spent many time invistigating about the groovy sound of House until I got it into The Shelter Club (New York), under the guidance of DJ Timmy Regisford when I touched the sky.

This mix "Variations in House music" is only a tranning to mix different styles in House such as Electro, Deep and Funky House.
I hope you'll enjoy it!!

Dance in Italy (80s Italo-Disco Classics)

Hello everybody! I recorded this mix in October of 2008 preparing a mix for D'aran Club Italo dance party. Most of Italo Disco I knew years ago, sounded a bit ridiculous in my mind, I just remembered the "oh-oh" chorus from 80s FM radio when I was a child, and Sabrina or Samantha Fox prominents tits... until I re-discovered the original italo-disco masterpieces.

In early 80s, some Italian (or Italian blooded) producers as Giorgio Moroder, Bobby Orlando or Gino Soccio, under the influence of Kraftwerk and US Disco, introduced a new concept in Electronic music, and made reborn the dancefloor culture in Europe, after the 70s Disco was officially murdered in Yankees Stadium.

Sci-fi synths, minimal sounds, vocoders, Disco Divas, high energy beats, and even some electronic experimentation had a place in Euro Disco or Italo Disco. It was a big influence in the creation of Chicago's House Music, never missed in the WBMX mixes (home of the legendary Hot mix 5 Djs) Euro and Italo Disco was perfectly convined with the early house tunes.

This mix is a trip back to the 80s...I hope you will enjoy it too!
