Dance in Italy (80s Italo-Disco Classics)

Hello everybody! I recorded this mix in October of 2008 preparing a mix for D'aran Club Italo dance party. Most of Italo Disco I knew years ago, sounded a bit ridiculous in my mind, I just remembered the "oh-oh" chorus from 80s FM radio when I was a child, and Sabrina or Samantha Fox prominents tits... until I re-discovered the original italo-disco masterpieces.

In early 80s, some Italian (or Italian blooded) producers as Giorgio Moroder, Bobby Orlando or Gino Soccio, under the influence of Kraftwerk and US Disco, introduced a new concept in Electronic music, and made reborn the dancefloor culture in Europe, after the 70s Disco was officially murdered in Yankees Stadium.

Sci-fi synths, minimal sounds, vocoders, Disco Divas, high energy beats, and even some electronic experimentation had a place in Euro Disco or Italo Disco. It was a big influence in the creation of Chicago's House Music, never missed in the WBMX mixes (home of the legendary Hot mix 5 Djs) Euro and Italo Disco was perfectly convined with the early house tunes.

This mix is a trip back to the 80s...I hope you will enjoy it too!

A mix with feeling (70s-80s Disco)

This mix is so special to me, and after many takes I've got some satisfiction with this one. Human drums are hard to mix, Larry Levan knew it, so he bassed his mixes on his own feeling with the groovy melodies and the beats. The great quality and the bravery of those musicians, Djs and producers from the 70s was amazing great. They really made miracles with the poor existing technology, It was pure talent.

Disco comes from the meeting between Funk and the new electronic technology. Officially Disco was born in the NY underground night clubs, with the support of black, latin and gay audiences from early 70s. After the Bee Gees smash "Saruday night fever", Disco became a massive and commercial culture, and finally became the classy-fashioned music from the 70s.
Disco was a big influence in the creation of many new styles such as House, Techno, Hip-Hop, Post-Punk or New Wave.

In 1980 Disco was officially murdered in the Yankees stadium when thousands of people burned Disco albums as a demonstration of conservative values. But really, Disco was murdered by the over-production, the AIDS expansion, the drugs abusse by the followers, the new conservative minds, and the fashion changes.
Actually Disco wasn't dead, it reborn again in early 80s under the new waves of electronic music such as Euro-Dance (in Europe) or House Music (in US).

Disco, Soul, Funk... I love it! When I get the feeling of those wonderful soulful songs I can't stop to mix until my ears and fingers can't stand the work. Let me guide you by the dark corners of the "Garage" or the "Warehouse" in late 70s and enjoy with the mix with all my best feeling.

This underground Disco mix is dedicated to Larry Levan, Frankie Knuckles, Farley Jackmaster Funk and all those wonderful DJs from the early years of House music. They were so grate!
